We had a fun filled 1/2 a year birthday full of smiles and giggles.

Eye Doctor...
Julie, Charles and Lily saw the eye doctor today. I was expecting the worse to be honest, instead they were so well behaved.
The eye doctor says...
Julie has a partially blocked tear duct and he wants me to massage it everyday and see her back in 9 mos. Julie traces (follows things, sounds, people) well, but her focus is a little impaired.
Charles traces well and has great focus (doctor said... he sees like a hawk).
Lily traces okay and her focus is not as impaired.
The doctor is happy with everything and doesn't think they will have any effects from their prematurity. He did comment that their focus or tracing could improve or not over time. He wants to see them back in 3 years.

A bath I'll never forget...
On Monday, I was finally able to remove Charles' last band-aid. Then on Tuesday, Chuck and I gave him his first splish splashing bath in over 2 mos. He loved it!!!

We're 5.5 months old...
I’m not even sure where to begin. I apologize yet again for not keeping up with the blog. I know some folks are actually interested in what is going on with the Sturgis family, mainly the 3 cute new additions.
To say a lot has happened since the babies arrived is an understatement. As you can imagine, Chuck and I have been very busy with all the usual baby needs times 3, plus some more. I won’t write about everything that has taken place since they were born or maybe some day I will, but for now I will give you the short story.
Some new stats on the triplets… as of their developmental visit on May 12…
Julie is 13 lbs 2 oz and 24.5 inches
Charles is 12 lbs and 23 inches
Lily is 12 lbs and 23.5 inches
The triplets are all developing beautifully for their adjusted ages. They are now 5.5 months old, but their adjusted age is only 3.5 months old. This is how the doctors and specialist grade their development.
Some of you may not know that Charles was born with a Congenital Heart Defect. He under went a balloon procedure at just a week old and was followed by a cardiologist about every 2-3 weeks there after. The latest on Charles CHD is on April 4 (Easter) Charles was re-admitted into the hospital. On April 7, Charles had open heart surgery. He had a variation of the ROSS procedure preformed. His surgery went well, but while they were inside they discovered that the Aortic Valve was infected, so he had to complete a 28 day course of antibiotics at the hospital. During Charles hospitalization, Chuck and I with Julie and Lily moved into the local Ronald McDonald House for a little over a month. Charles was discharged on May 7, the Friday before Mother’s Day. I prayed for my family to be under one roof for Mother’s Day and my prayers were answered!!! Charles has been back to the cardiologist since being discharged and the cardiologist is happy with his progress. Charles will need another surgery in the future, but the specialists don’t think it will be for 10 years or so.
All the babies are cooing and giggling. I get them on their bellies everyday for tummy time to build their upper body strength. They have pretty awesome head control. They have all rolled over at least once now, but Lily seems to be taking the lead in # of rolls. They all have their own little personalities.
I really hope to keep up with the blogging. I have been thinking about how I’m so rushed throughout a day. I don’t get to keep track of any of the special moments, but I’m hoping to start doing that here and it will be my little reference for when I start working on their baby books.

Welcoming Visitors...
We are excited that Charles will soon be on his way home. We expect many family and friends will want to meet the babies. We welcome all family and friends to visit the babies here in Millville.
First, we would like to explain some things that might not occur to some. The babies were born on December 11th about 2 months premature. Even now, they will not reach full-term until February 11th. They are more susceptible to infections and other stresses than are babies at full-term. For at least the first month we are going to take the babies out only for a doctor appointment. After that, we will avoid taking the babies to crowded locations, until RSV and flu season are over in April. We will avoid smoking locations because doctors tell us that no level of smoke is an acceptable risk.
When considering a visit, if anyone in your household has had a fever, sickness or been treated by medicine for a fever or sickness within the last 24 hours, please reschedule your visit for a later date.
When you arrive to visit we ask …
- wash your hands
- drape yourself with a clean receiving blanket or you can bring an extra shirt, if that makes you more comfortable. This is for the babies’ safety and your benefit also. We don’t want the babies to come in contact with anything that you might have come across on your journey to visit. Babies spit-up and the drape will save your street clothes
- # of visitors is limited to 4 at a time – the babies are easily over-stimulated. They tire if there are too many people around. This can make them more susceptible to other ailments.
These precautions are recommended by the doctors and healthcare professionals. We know you will understand and respect these simple rules. We look forward to your visit and get acquainted with these precious babies.
